Marvento Duo invites audiences to consider musical conversations: across cultures, between instruments, throughout history, and among disciplines. Chen Yi's Three Bagatelles from China West place Chinese and Euro-American musical cultures in conversation with each other. Elizabeth Raum’s Conversations for Flute and Piano captures a whole range of interactions, from gossip to quarrel to reunion. Marvento Duo also shares the works of important but overlooked women composers, contributing to ongoing discussions about who is celebrated by history. After introducing music of the 17th century Italian Anna Bon and 19th century Frenchwoman Marie Clemence de Grandval, the concert will turn to the contemporary. Audiences will hear the story of how Carl Vine’s Sonata for Flute and Piano became an essential part of Marvento Duo’s collaborations with coral reef scientists and Dalcroze music educators.
